This project involved substantial additions and alterations to an existing bungalow. The large site offered potential for a single level extension, but also contained significant stands of protected trees that limited the building footprint in places.
A rigorous design process developed a home that exploits the site with connections to the sun and outdoors, whilst maintaining privacy and separation where needed. Period features of the house were maintained and refurbished, without limiting the incorporation of modern conveniences, and infrastructure. The existing kitchen was redesigned and enlarged to form the organisational hub of the house. Existing formal living and dining rooms were retained, and supplemented by more informal open plan additions.
This completed family home now has a series of wings offering a range of spaces for living, dining, sleeping & bathing, including guest accommodation. The house is configured to allow working from home. Entertaining and relaxing options are maximised through a variety of indoor/outdoor connections and zones.
